Future Forms - Lai Tsung-Yun & Huang Ya-Nung + White Wigwam (live at úl 31. 8. 2025)

• V tomto díle Future Forms uslyšíte záznam dvou krásných koncertů, které proběhly v prostoru úl na pražském sídlišti Ďáblice. Micro-label a promotérská skupina Antimother, která akci pořádala, sice vyrostla ze scény okolo žižkovského centra experimentální hudby Punctum, ale čím dál častěji pro svá nepravidelná kulturní setkání objevuje i ještě méně známá a o to zajímavější místa. Méně známá, ale o to zajímavější jména pak improvizovaný sál v bývalém typizovaném obchodním středisku panelového sídliště ovládla s naprostou přirozeností.
• Lai Tsung-Yun a Huang Ya-Nung, kteří pocházejí z Taiwanu a žijí tam, spolu rozehráli až telepaticky působící elektro-akustickou show, kde bylo těžko rozpoznat, co je předem připraveno a co už je improvizace. Zatímco Lai, kurátor a organizátor taiwanského sound art festivalu Lacking Sound, sází hlavně na elektroniku inspirovanou IDM a noisem, multidisciplinární umělkyně Huang hraje na obdivuhodnou sbírku tradičních nástrojů, mezi které patří několik fléten a dvouplátkových dřevěných dechů z Taiwanu a Číny, ale taky brumle z Kambodži a Ruska. Ty v průběhu vystoupení snímá mikrofonem, který má celou dobu umístěný na své ruce, a jejich zvuk pak Lai ještě elektronicky upravuje v reálném čase. Výsledkem je temná, stísněná a brutálně intenzivní hudba plná kontrastů a emočních zvratů, která se v některých pasážích podobá indonéským Gabber Modus Operandi, aby se pak rozpadla v momentě, kdy to nejvíc nečekáte.
• S naprosto protikladným setem jim předskakoval lokální producent a stálice Antimother koncertů White Wigwam, jeho nahrávku ale uslyšíte až jako druhou v pořadí. Ve svých vystoupeních téměř vždy jako hlavní ingredience používá modulární syntezátor a Moog Grandmother, s jejichž pomocí staví přísně kontrolované sekvence, které se pomalu a hypnoticky rozvíjí na plátně relativně krátkých časových úseků. Tento White Wigwamův 25minutový set pak patří k těm delším. Každopádně i zde platí, že dobrého pomálu.
• This volume of Future Forms presents a recording of two brilliant live shows which took place at a space named úl, located at Prague’s Ďáblice panel housing estate. The event was put together by Antimother, a micro-label and promoter group that blossomed from the scene around Punctum, the Prague-Žižkov go-to club for experimental music. However, recently they’ve been discovering rather unknown, but even more interesting venues for their concerts. And I have to say that he rather unknown, but even more interesting line-up of the event this time worked suprisingly naturally and well in the improvised „concert hall” inside of the former panel housing estate standardized shopping centre.
• Lai Tsung-Yun and Huang Ya-Nung, who come from Taiwan, played an electroacoustic show that screamed „telepathy”. It was hard to tell what was rehearsed and what was improvised. While Lai, the curator and organizator of Taiwanese sound art festival Lacking Sound, works mostly inside the boundaries of electronic music influenced by IDM and noise, the multidisciplinary artist Huang plays a spectacular collection of traditional instruments including not only several flutes and double reed woodwinds from Taiwan and China, but also jew’s harps from Cambodia and Russia. Those are recorded with a microphone connected to her hand the entire time of the performance, and their sound is electronically edited by Lai in real time. The result is dark, anxious, brutally intense music for confined spaces. It is full of contrast and emotional upheaval. Some passages may remind you of the Indonesian Gabber Modus Operandi, just to fall apart when you expect it the least.
• With the antithesis to their set, White Wigwam, who is a Czech producer and a permanent collaborator of Antimother, took care of the opening slot. However, you will hear the recording of his show in the second half of Future Forms. The typical White Wigwam show consists of two main ingredients – a modular synth and Moog Grandmother. With their help he’s building strictly controlled sequences, which are slowly and hypnotically developing during a relatively short time slots. This 25-minute-long set is one of his longer ones. Don’t overdo it with the good stuff!
